Double-deckers save B&Q 2.8 million miles a year
B&Q are to invest a massive £5.4 million in a new fleet of 120 double-decker trailers. This huge invest is set to cut B&Q’s annual carbon emissions by nearly three million tones per year.
Motor transport reported B&Q’s Director of Logistics Rick Jones commented "Our fleet comprises of 225 tractors units and 700 trailers and when all the 120 new trailers are in service, we’ll be looking to save a combined 54,000 miles per week or 2.8 million miles per year. With this reduction in road miles we can reduce our fleet CO2 emissions by 2.7 tonnes per annum".
B&Q have joined a 10:10 campaign, which encourages businesses to reduce their CO2 emissions by 10% by the end of 2010.
B&Q completed an initial order of 60 double-decker trailers in June and has ordered a further 50 Montracon and Don-Bur trailer for delivery in December 2009, followed by a second batch of 70 to arrive in Easter.
