Lord Adonis backs FTA's Carbon Reduction Scheme

The FTA's Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS), recently covered by Pulling Power, is being supported by Lord Adonis, secretary of state for transport.

The FTA has set up its LCRS scheme in advance of carbon reduction targets, widely expected to be announced in the middle of this year. The logistics sector currently creates 30% of domestic transport emissions. The aim of LCRS is to encourage the government to reward those firms that take carbon-cutting action. Responding to the FTA Adonis agrees with the need for Logistics to reduce carbon emissions.

Commenting on the LCRS, FTA director of policy, James Hookham, says "FTA wants to ensure that the freight industry does not carry the burden for delivering carbon emission reductions for the whole transport sector and that its efforts are supported by sympathetic changes to transport taxes and the legislative framework in which freight is moved."

Axscend welcomes the FTAs LCRS, recognising that reducing carbon emissions is important for all commercial vehicle operators. Logistics firms looking to make these savings through fleet optimisation can use trailer management solutions, such as Axscend Trailer Management. Harnessing GPS tracking and trailer management software with Axscend Trailer Management enable Logistics firms to ensure their trailer fleet is being fully and most efficiently utilised.
