Save money with FTA Vehicle Inspection Service
The FTA's Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) launched in the 1960’s carries out over 100,000 inspections every year. VIS helps fleet managers ensure they are compliant with commercial vehicle regulations and avoid the rigorous penalties.
With a national team of inspection engineers, FTA VIS director says the service delivers improvements in operations and major cost savings. Comparisons of FTA-inspected vehicles and trailers consistently finds that VIS-inspected trailers had 85% fewer braking defects, 83% fewer wheel and axle defects and 62% fewer suspension and tyre defects. VIS-inspected vehicles also fared well with 57% less braking defects, 66% fewer wheel and axle defects and 17% fewer tyre defects.
Getting professional inspection can save in downtime, prohibitions and graduated fixed penalties and achieve significant financial benefits. One FTA member with a fleet of 340 vehicles has shown a saving of £265 per vehicle per annum, which relates to an overall £90,000 annual saving.
"As well as efficiency gains, regular inspections help generate cost savings by the prevention of unnecessary repair work before it is due" says FTA VIS Director Alan Osbourne. Operators with leased vehicles on repair and maintenance contracts also achieve substantial cost benefits, through reductions in repair bills and the ability to call on FTA team rather than maintaining a permanent member of staff.
Freight haulage firms looking to optimise their fleets can also use Trailer Management solutions to more efficiently monitor and plan maintenance, inspections and MOTs. The Axscend Trailer Management System ensures Services and MOTs won't be missed and enables off-road time to be more carefully planned.
