VOSA meets Denby over LHV prohibition
Denby says its 25.1m two-trailer Longer Heavier Vehicle (LHV), the Eco-Link, is within the 25.9m maximum overall length allowed under section 7(5) of the Construction & Use regulations. After VOSA placed a prohibition on the Eco-Link when the firm put it on the road last year, VOSA has now invited Denby Transport to a meeting at the Department of Transport.
VOSA says in its letter that it will take a 'dim view' of any further infringement. However Denby say that infringement has not been confirmed in the courts. Denby were prompted to put the vehicle on the road after an earlier letter from the DfT which stated that the vehicle could be illegal and the courts would need to decide.
Denby comments that "we ran the trial in order to precipitate a test case."
LHVs is one of a number of proposed solutions coming from the logistics industry to improve the carbon, fuel and cost efficiencies of road haulage. Optimisation of existing trailer fleets is another option being taken by companies including TDG, Taygroup and Dawsons Rentals. Using Satellite Tracking from Axscend enables companies to monitor fleet performance using a number of Key Performance Indicators.
