Warehousing looking to carbon savings with toolkit
The Warehousing industry currently contributes 3% of UK carbon dioxide emissions the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) estimates, and it has gone into partnership with the Carbon Trust to identify ways reduce this figure.
UKWA members are taking part in a series of site surveys and workshops being run by the carbon Trust to evaluate opportunities for savings, including assessing payback periods and potential barriers to introducing energy-saving systems.
The Warehousing industry could save money as well as carbon according to the Carbon Trust who say "We believe the UK warehousing industry could save in excess of £150m in energy costs and 1.5m tonnes of carbon by making simple changes."
It is not just in Warehousing that there are initiatives to reduce carbon and make cost efficiencies. Pulling Power regularly showcases initiatives in the logistics and haulage industry. Already operators that use Axscend trailer tracking are able to optimise their trailer fleet by using GPS Tracking and monitoring trailer activity, including load weights and location. With this visibility pick-ups and drop-offs can be carefully planned, reducing the number of trips, reducing fuel usage, saving costs and lowering the carbon footprint.
