Lafarge cuts fuel costs by 10% with Don-bur teardrops

12th May 2010

Lafarge, working with Wincanton, has introduced 25 Don-bur teardrop curtain-sided trailers to its fleet. The teardrop trailers will cut fuel costs by 10% and reduce carbon emissions by 120 tonnes per year. Further cost savings and carbon reduction are expected from a trial of alternative fuel liquid natural gas. Rail has been discounted as an option as it is difficult to link in with the existing shared multi-modal service, or to justify the use of an entire train.

New trailer designs are an excellent initiative for operators wanting to cut fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions. Switching to alternative fuel will also deliver results. Fleet operators can also increase efficiencies from existing trailer fleets and deliver further savings on all trailers, by utilising trailer management GPS tracking solutions such as Axscend trailerMASTER. As one customer comments "Axscend has become an essential management tool. It gives us control of our trailer fleet and the information we need to optimise usage."
