Battery life
One of the key issues is the importance of the power source for Trailer Tracking devices. It is crucial to ensure a device has a battery that can offer a long, safe and reliable service life. A number of different battery chemistries have been seen in Trailer Tracking devices, with some more suitable than others. Several are even dangerous - at extreme temperatures, certain batteries can lose significant capacity, even freeze, rendering them useless, whilst others have the potential to catch fire at high temperatures
The GPS device has a battery life of up to 10 years. Axscend's battery life predictions are calculated by first de-rating the available power by 20% and then assuming that the unit will spend up to 50% of its operational life at temperature extremes and finally taking into account the tracking device's one "variable power drain " the GPS. These elements enable very accurate battery life predictions, ultimately this means a very limited requirement for battery change and disposal, allowing the device to offer a low-cost, long, reliable and unattended service life.
