Question

What do Sputnik, the shooting down of a Korean Air Lines flight, Lars Ericsson and the modern-day transport office have in common?

Answer

1957 saw the dawn of the space age. The USSR launched Sputnik, the first man-made object to orbit the Earth. Not wanting to be left behind in the technology race the United States was spurred on to create the Advanced Research Project Agency, which in turn began the development of what we now know to be called the Internet.

As project "Internet" was taking shape other events took place adding more technologies to the mix.

In 1983 a Korean Air Lines flight was shot down by Soviet jets over the Sea of Japan. All 269 passengers and crew were killed in what was described as a navigational error, the flight straying into Soviet airspace. This incident, amongst others encouraged President Ronald Reagan to issue a directive making the US Global Positioning System (GPS) available for civilian use, believing it was for the "greater good". At first the highest quality signal was reserved for "military use only" however in 2000 U.S President Bill Clinton turned off this filter improving the precision of GPS from 1000 feet to 65 feet.

In the mean time the first GSM cellular network was launched in Finland by Radiolinja and Ericsson after which by the end of 1993 over a million subscribers were using GSM phone networks being operated by 70 carriers across 48 countries.

Today sees GPS positioning technology, GSM mobile communication and the Internet used in our every day lives and the transport sector is no exception.

After working with and talking to hundreds of transport businesses the directors of Axscend, Tim Steer and Amanda Pack were hearing a familiar message. Tight margins, fuel prices, seeing off the competition by working smarter and improving the bottom line were all subjects high on the agenda.

As the need for trailer tracking and management grew it became clear a solution specifically designed for improving trailer fleet efficiency was required. After extensive market research into what customers needed and what was available on the market Axscend decided to take the challenging step of embarking on its own product and software development.

The Axscend team with their years of experience knew exactly what was required from the next generation of trailer management and spent the next 2 years working with experts to deliver their vision.

In 2010, trailerMASTER was born…

The convergence of technologies, GPS, GSM and the Internet alongside some clever thinking has made trailerMASTER the future of trailer management.
